Old Fort Lowell Neighborhood Association

Council Meeting

January 17, 2006

Members in attendance: Judy Ciampoli, Demion Clinco, Ann Fina, Ann Hastings,  Larry Hecker, Elaine Hill, Dennis Olson, Bill Sherrill

Guests:  Jack de Pagter

Dennis Olson called the meeting to order at 7:07 pm.

Approval of minutes:  Ann Hastings moved and Ann Fina seconded that the December 20, 2005 OFLNA minutes be approved as written. Motion carried.

Treasurer’s Report:  OFLNA has approximately $74,000 in checking and savings accounts.

Land Plan Committee:  The committee met with the developer to discuss a variety of issues regarding six homes his company has under construction on Glenn.

The Adkins property will close in April or May.

Construction of the Chapel support building may not break ground now until May or June due to county’s needs to acquire easements from several neighboring properties.

La Reunion 2006:  Ann Fina reported that 225 invitations to the La Reunion event (Saturday, February 11) will be sent out soon. Janet Marcus still needs to recruit a few site hosts. The Cavalry is booked to perform at Ft. Lowell Park. Several “truffle” awards will be given at the La Reunion dinner the evening of the event.

Larry reported that landscaping and irrigation improvements are being developed by the Pet Set property owners (the new business being developed on east side of Craycroft north of San Miguel).

New Business

A Co-Chair from OFLNA is needed for the Flea Market event that will be held April 20-23. Council Member Judy Ciampoli agreed to assist Kay Anderson and others with the project.

OFLNA’s studio building was burglarized in mid-January. Thefts were minor.

A clean-up will be scheduled for Ft. Lowell, following a complaint about several problems. Elaine Hill noted that a number of shrubs also need to be replaced.  Instructions will be written for neighborhood residents about planting – tips on what types of plants should be installed, care required, etc.

Discussion continued about neighborhood graffiti problems.

Larry asked if OFLNA wants to take an official position (a ballot argument) on the city’s transportation plan. Larry noted that the Swan/Grant/Craycroft areas will see improved access. Discussion followed. The Council, by consensus, expressed a position in favor of the transportation plan.

Jack DePagter, OFLNA resident and member of the Council’s Building Committee requested an agenda item be added to the Council’s February meeting. The point of discussion will be land survey issues pertaining to his family’s property and OFLNA property (vis a vis a survey completed in 2003). He suggested that some issues regarding the easement description need to be reviewed further. These issues should be resolved before proceeding with our upcoming construction projects.

Dennis Olson announced that David Schmidle officially resigned from the Board. He has moved out of the Ft. Lowell neighborhood.

Meeting adjourned at 8:30 pm.

Respectfully submitted,

Judy Ciampoli, OFLNA Council Secretary
