Council Meeting

March 12, 2007

 

Members in attendance: Bill Anderson, Judy Ciampoli, Ann Fina, John Flynn, Ann Hastings, Dave Olsen, Dennis Olson, Jerry Rothbaum

 

President Dennis Olson called the meeting to order at 19:08 pm.

 

Approval of minutes:  Bill Anderson moved and Ann Fina seconded that the January, 2007 OFLNA minutes be approved as written; John Flynn moved and Dave Olsen seconded that the February, 2007 minutes be approved as written. Motions carried.

 

Treasurer’s Report:  Bill Anderson reported that OFLNA has $76,935.00 in savings account and $8,031.00 in checking account.  Ann Fina moved and Judy Ciampoli seconded that the Treasurer’s report be approved as submitted. Motion carried.

 

Committee Reports

 

Flea Market: Bill reported that volunteers are moving items into the Chapel for the  OFLNA Flea Market, which opens with a preview for members Thursday March 29th.

 

Building: Bill Anderson reported that the original bond for restoration of the chapel was $300,000 and that was upped by the county to $350,000. Bids from contractors came in and they ranged from $324,000 – 495,000 for completion of the work. The County Supervisors are meeting on the 13th to approve the lowest bid, from Durazzo, a firm very experienced with historic preservation work.

 

There will be noticed to proceed in the next couple of weeks and then 30 days before work will begin. Bill will attend any pertinent meetings prior to the start date and will oversee the project.

Bill Anderson moved and John Flynn seconded the approval of President Olson signing the necessary documents to go forward with the project. Motion carried.

 

Step that will occur include: (1) grant of preservation easement; (2) right of entry (contractor access); and (3) deed of gift (that any cultural resources discovered will be moved to the Arizona Historical Society for evaluation.

 

Land Plan: Members of the committee will speak to the Sonoran Institute regarding discussions and issues involving TMC’s plans for expansion.   Carol West met with a TMC group to outline OFLN concerns. An ombudsman has been assigned to work with the neighborhood as the planning continues.

 

Old Business

 

A meeting needs to be scheduled for the committee working on the future of the Commissary buildings to discuss concerns with city and county representatives.

 

A search committee has been established to develop candidates/nominees for OLFNA Board Members. Dave Olsen and John Flynn have been coordinating this effort.

 

 

New Business

 

Attorney Ed Laber will represent OFLNA with issues relative to the de Pagter Family Trust. OFLNA plans to file a restraining order following harassment, claims of land ownership and trespass.  We have received affidavits from local government contacts that were made. The City of Tucson’s attorney’s office will confirm OFLNA position vis a vis the original three-way plans that had been made and agreed upon (OFLNA, de Pagter family and the City).

 

John Flynn moved and Ann Hastings seconded that the lease for the tin shed on Commissary property should be $1.00 per year.
