Council Meeting

April 9, 2007

 

Members in attendance: Bill Anderson, Judy Ciampoli, Ann Fina, John Flynn, Ann Hastings, Larry Hecker, Elaine Hill, Dave Olsen, Dennis Olson, Jerry Rothbaum

Guest: Rodney Glassman

 

President Dennis Olson called the meeting to order at 7:05 PM.

 

Approval of minutes:  Bill Anderson moved and Ann Hastings seconded that the March 12, 2007 OFLNA minutes be approved as written; Motion carried.

 

Treasurer’s Report:  Bill Anderson reported that OFLNA has $77114.00 in money market account and $4,993.00 in checking account. Expenses for the installation of the altar rail and miscellaneous purchases for flea market were $2,000. OFLNA had income of about $600. Motion to approve Treasurer’s report was seconded and approved by Council.

 

 

Committee Reports

 

Flea Market: Ann Hastings reported that the net income from the Flea Market should be about $7,200; expenses were approximately $900. Detailed figures are not in yet.

 

 

Building: Bill Anderson informed the Council that the County Supervisors are holding off temporarily from signing contractor documents for construction of the Chapel support building. The de Pagter family plans to meet with Linda Mayro, the County’s Cultural Resources Manager. Construction work will be divided into Phase I and Phase II, It is possible the project will have to re-bid since the original bid will only be held for 90 days.

 

Larry Hecker reported that legal action has been taken regarding the ongoing property dispute. A temporary restraining order was also issued.

 

Land Plan: Elaine Hill noted several items:

 

(1)   Transportation Enhancement funding is available and she suggested OFLNA submit a request for funds to help with costs of a walking path connecting corral and Hohokam site.

(2)   Historic District Board and Elaine working together to develop historic guidelines for the Commissary site.

(3)   Second phase of demolition of schoolhouse area along Ft. Lowell Rd. has involved additional removal of tunnels. Two new houses will be built on that site.

(4)   Sale of the Harrington house is under consideration.

(5)   Five houses will be built along Glenn and a one-story new house on Francisco Place.

(6)   The OFLNA Historic District Board will begin an inventory to update the old one.

(7)   Once the Adkins’ property is more stabilized there will be a tour for the Historic District Board and OFLNA Council members. Elaine is representing the neighborhood on the steering committee that will make recommendations for the Adkins project. Meetings will be open to all.

(8)   Another meeting regarding Tucson Medical Center’s development plan will be held April 10th.

 

Rodney Glassman then introduced himself and distributed literature about his campaign to fill the Ward 2 City Council seat being vacated by Councilwoman Carol West. He discussed his priorities and reasons for running for the position.

 

 

 

Old Business

 

Dave Olsen and John Flynn, chairs of the nominating committee seeking candidates for OLFNA Council Members, announced two nominees: Frank Flasch and Ralph Colwell; still need to fill one slot.

 

The OFLNA annual meeting will be held May 6th, Sunday, at 5 pm.

 

Elaine Hill added that she hopes to have a brochure together soon on the care of local trails and plants. She plans to attend a local water harvesting seminar to learn more about issues we face.
