Old Fort Lowell Neighborhood Association

Council Meeting

May 14, 2007

Members in attendance: Bill Anderson, Ann Fina,  Larry Hecker, Elaine Hill, Gary Molenda, Dave Olsen, Dennis Olson, Jerry Rothbaum

New Council Members: Frank Flasch, Ralph Colwell

President Dennis Olson called the meeting to order at 7:10 PM.

Approval of minutes: Ann Fina moved and Bill Anderson seconded that the April, 2006 OLFNA Minutes be approved as written.

Treasurer’s Report:  Bill Anderson reported that OFLNA has $82,118 in bank accounts. The current report does not reflect proceeds from the Flea Market sale to be split with the Live-at-Home organization. Expenses are also not reflected, so the May 31 balance will be approximately $10,000 less.

Committee Reports

Building: Bill Anderson reported that the Chapel support building project is on hold pending resolution of legal issues with adjacent neighbors, the de Pagters. The County advises that the contract must be awarded within a set time period and it should not go forward if there is risk to the project.

Bill gave a brief report to bring new members up to date on this issue. Attorneys met today for the second time. Richard Block, the attorney for the de Pagters presented Bill with a list of 10 demands. After review and consideration, Gary moved and Ann seconded that the Board should reject the items proposed in the document entitled “Settlement Discussion – May 14, 2007,” and to reconsider them later if advised to do so by our attorneys. The motion carried. There is a May 16 court date.

Bill advised that the allocation of $5,000 for attorney’s fees may not be sufficient. Elaine moved and Gary seconded a motion to increase the allocation to $10,000. During discussion that followed, concern was expressed that the Association’s funds are being squandered in the resolution of the suit. Also, if construction bids increase because of this action then we will ask for the increased costs to be reimbursed. Motion carried.

Land Plan: Elaine Hill reminded the Board of the TMC meeting to be held on May 23. The Land Plan Committee is actively pursuing the issues of preservation, traffic and effect on the neighborhood.

The Historic District Board is monitoring demolition on the Fort Lowell Schoolhouse parcel.

There was no new business. The next meeting will be held June 11.

Meeting adjourned at 8:10PM
